Five Utah county boy scouts are writing accounts of "the finest adventure ad-venture of their scouting experience," experi-ence," after making a 50 mile pack hike to the top of King's Peak in the Uintah mountains, highest point in Ulah. They left Provo, August 9 and returned Saturday night. Dr. I.. D. PI'outs, director of camping, Utah National Parks council, and Merrill Christopher-yon, Christopher-yon, associate scout executive, led the party on the long trek. The young men who attained the state's topmost height were Vearl and Byron Johnson, Provo, John Moore and Carl Brockbank, Spanish Span-ish Fork, and Dean Holden, Pay-son. After driving to the Yellowstone station in the Uintahs, they took the trail on foot, carrying packs holding food, sleeping -bags, tents, j ponchos, and all materials neces-, neces-, sary for camping out" seven days. They hiked the 25 miles to the i summit of the 13.500 foot peak in three days and then returned, i Coming back, they pioneered i trackless country. Fish caught by the scouts also helped round out the diet. Food was plentiful and no injuries were suffered, although ravenous mosquitoes mos-quitoes kept the boys busy several days. Showers fell but the ponchos kept the boys dry throughout the trip. The group formed themselves into the "Davey Crockett's" club. At the summit Dr. Pfouts presented pre-sented each one with a claw of a lion, bear or eagle. These claws will be presented on souvenir cords. Only members of the club will be permitted to wear the trophy, and membership will be limited to scouts who' make a 50-mile 50-mile pack trip to the top of some dominating peak in the Uintahs.
