Show HAYES ESCAPES F SQUAD SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 16 (IU! Governor Henry H. Bloor today saved George Hayes from the firing fir-ing squad for the second time today to-day when he granted the 54-year-old slayer of a Tooele county recluse his second temporary reprieve. re-prieve. The Utah executive gave Hayes a suspension of sentence until after aft-er Sept. 18 when the state board of pardons will consider a request for commutation of the death sentence sen-tence to life imprisonment. The reprieve followed a hearing hear-ing in Tooele this morning at which County Attorney G'. S. Richardson Rich-ardson represented Tooele county coun-ty residents in opposing the reprieve. re-prieve. Hayes received his first postponement post-ponement in April, one week before be-fore he was slated to go before the firing squad April 29. His original or-iginal plea of legal insanity was denied by the pardons board following fol-lowing Hayes' first reprieve. |
