Show High School News Items BY CLARA HARMEK Richard Wightman, formerly of the Springvilie high school and now attending Pomona College, was formally a member of the Pomona College student body at Matriculation Convocation held on Saturday, February 17, on the1 college campus. To matriculate, a student must have attained an average grade of C in all his classes, and he must have shown himself to be in accord with the spirit of the college. Thus, at Pomona College matriculation implies the meeting of all entrance requirements and the proven ability to do college work. This year 119 freshmen and 49 students in advanced standing matriculated. The eighthgrade is sponsoring a raffle on a picture "The Old Cottonwood" painted by Wayne1 Johnson, Tickets are 10 cents a chance and the proceeds will be used for their art candidate. The raffle will be held at assembly Friday March 16. The painting is of the old cotton-wood cotton-wood which stands in front of the Third ward church. It is one of the oldest of its kind in the ! state. I The Girls basketball team has j been chosen with the following j girls; forwards, Muriel Jensen ! Cleone Fox, Louise Plumlee, and! Irene Jensen; guards, Minnie, Henderson, Ruth Whitney, Anna Miner, Wilma Whiting, and Naomi Sumsion; centers, Virginia Clark.1 La Vern Graves, Slyvia Curtis and, ; Leola Felix. Muriel Jensen has been elected captain of the team. They will 1 play their first game Thursday; with Spanish Fork there. J . i i The first and second year type teams will enter the contest to be; held at Payson Friday March 16.) Those on the first year team are; Helen Tew, Francis Brimhall,' and LaDean Harker. Those on the; second year team are: Marjorie ; Straw, Bernice Jensen and Eva Starr. |
