Joyce Olleruson entertained a group of friends at a birthday party Saturday afternoon, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Harold Averett. She was six years old. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wright of Salt Lake City spent two days of the past week with Mr. and Mrs. M. fr Miner. Mr. Wright came especially for the deer hunting season. Mrs. Ora Rowland will be hostess host-ess to members of the S. T. club at her home Thursday, October 28. Members are asked to be present at 8 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Metcalf of Redland, Calif., spent the past week with Mr. Metcalfs parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Metcalf. They came especially for the deer, hunting season. Watson and family of Salt Lake City, were guests of Mr. and Mrrs. J. F. Wingate and family during dur-ing the week end. Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camp Aaron Johnson, held an interesting in-teresting meeting Thursday afternoon, after-noon, at the home of Captain Mae Bird. It was the initial meeting of the season. Assisting Assist-ing hostesses were Mrs. Emma Hutchings, Mrs. Julia Dallin, Mrs. Sadie Beardall. Mrs. Maggie Daley and Mrs. Hattie Allen. The meeting featured a history of the pioneers, Moses and Polly Patten Childs, given in an mter-cstire mter-cstire manner by a grand-daughter Mrs. Nora C. Weight. A irrcat granddaughter, Miss Anna Bea.da.1, gave a talk on "P? Receipts," Which constituted the Tesson for the afternoon. A report on the markers recently installed by the Sons lowe'en decorative color scheme, with place cards and centerpiece arranged appropriately. In line with the theme of the year's work, liberal education, Mrs. M. R. straw presented pre-sented a paper on, "Better Adult Speech." Special emphasis was given to faulty diction and slips of speech. Louise Clyde entertained entertain-ed delightfully with accordion selections, se-lections, "Vilia," "Satan Takes a Holiday," and 'Coppelia." An attractive Hallowe'en decorative color scheme was employed in place cards, table centerpieces and in the luncheon. The program especially espe-cially interesting, and enjoyable, included, a lesson on better English Eng-lish given by Mrs. Mae Groes-beck; two vocal solos given by Mrs. Lela Packard, accompanied by Mrs. Julia Sumsion at the piano and a talk on health habits by Mrs. Clara Sumsion. President Elizabeth Eliza-beth Salisbury had the meeting in charge. Kennedy and daughter daugh-ter Edna of Salina have spent the past few days with friends and relatives in Springville and Salt Lake City. A family homecoming to celebrate cele-brate Miss Cleo Pierce's birthday birth-day was held last Saturday, at the home of Andrew Pierce. A nicely arranged dinner was served ser-ved at noon to the following family members: Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Pierce and family of Spanish Fork, Mrs. Jessie Perkins Perk-ins and family of Smithfield, Mrs. J. F. Hales and children, Andrew Pierce, Clifford Pierce and M':ss Cieo Pierce, the latter of Ogden. Mrs. William I. Noakes has returned re-turned to- her home here following follow-ing a delightful visit to the coast. She visited the Boulder dam en route and numerous interesting in-teresting places at Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Francisco and other coast cities. Mrs. Ada B. Stidham of Danville, Dan-ville, Kentucky, left this week for her home following a three months' visit with her brother, J. F. Wingate and family in Springville. Mrs. Lucy Robertson has returned re-turned to her home from the L. D. S. hospital where she has been confined the past two weeks following an operation for cataract cata-ract on the eye. Mrs. Carrie Tripp spent a few days of the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Tripp and other relatives in Salt Lake City. The meeting concluded with the serving of refreshments to about 35 members and guests present. The Mothers Study club meet-; meet-; ing scheduled for Friday, Octo ber 22, was postponed until I October 29, when it will be held at the home of Mrs. Harold Alle-man. Alle-man. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Clegg and Mr. and Mrs. George Crandall 1 spent several days of the past Nveek on the deer hunt in south- I crn Utah. Mrs. Eva M. Crandall of this city recently returned from a delightful de-lightful five weeks trip to California. Cali-fornia. She visited her son Gordon Gor-don Crandall and family and also al-so other relatives and friends in and near Los Angeles, Cal. Lieutenant-Colonel E. L. Nye and Mrs. Nye of Fort Mead, South Dakota spent several days of the past week with Mrs. Nye's mother, Mrs. Selina Kelsey in this city. They left the latter part of the week for Denver, Colo., where they will visit their daughter Kathleen, who is in school there, before returning to Fort Mead. During their stay in Springville they have been extensively entertained. T h ey were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Johnson and were also entertained at dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Knudsen in Spanish Fork. Theo Phillips of Roosevelt spent several days of the past week with Springville relatives. One of the outstanding social events of the past week was the party given by Mrs. E. V. Boor-man Boor-man and Mrs. C. E. Eggert-son Eggert-son at the home of the latter, Friday evening for members of the Home Culture ciub and a number of guests. Early in the evening a sumptuous dinner was served by candlelight at small tables. Each table was artistically decorated to carry out a Hal- Mrs. Sadie Kelley McTavish of Salt Lake City for many years a resident of Springville has just returned re-turned from a three months' visit with friends in Florida during which time she was convalescing from a severe illness. She visited in Miami and at Latuna Beach. While there her brother, Thomas Kelley, also a former resident of this city and his wife drove from his home in Jackson, Miss., to visit her. On her return to Utah, Mrs. McTavish toured the southern states, also Illinois, Iowa, Indiana Indi-ana and Missouri. She spent five days with friends in Kansas City and spent a short time in Omaha, Neb. In Denver, Colo., she was the the guest of Miss Maude Ditmar, who at one time managed a millinery mil-linery establishment in Springville. Spring-ville. Due to the high altitude at Denver, Mrs. McTavish was confined con-fined to a hospital there for some time. She is visiting at present with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Miner in Springville and will leave in about two weeks to spend the winter in Oakland, Cal., with her son James S. Blaine and family.
