Show F. R. DEDICATES LODGE PROJECT TIMBERLODGE, Mt. Hood, Ore.; Sept. 28 u.Ei President Roosevelt here today dedicated Timberline lodge, which he described des-cribed as an experimental project pro-ject to determine "workability of recreational facilities installed by the government itself and operated oper-ated under its complete control." WPa workers constructed this mile-high spacious guest lodge for tourists on the south slope of Mt. Hood, 64 miles from Portland. It was paid for in part with federal fed-eral funds. The project cost ?650,-000. ?650,-000. Mr. Roosevelt found a text here for a theme he repeatedly has emphasized in this westward transcontinental journey. Again and again he has told train-side crowds that it was his duty as president to journey among the people and know their prolems and he has urged the citizens who heard him to travel when they could become better acquainted with their' own country and its sectional problems. . Leaving here the president's party motored down the mountain and on to Portland and Vancouver, Vancouv-er, Wash., where it will entrain for Seattle at 5 p. m. |
