Show Attractions At The Theaters An insight into the workings of a "shake-down sheet," a corrupt cor-rupt newspaper which employs blackmail tactics, is supplied in the powerful story of a newspaper news-paper war, "Exclusive," which opens on Friday at the Rivoli theatre. With Fred MacMurray, Frances Farmer and Charlie Ruggles in the starring roles, the picture also includes in its cast Lloyd Nolan, Ralph Morgan, Harlan Briggs, Fay Holden and a score of other well known players. -: Ever see a motion picture in the making? If you haven't, it won't be necessary for you to travel all the way to Hollywood to see how it's done now. All you'll have to do is drop into the Ritz theatre, where the First National arce-comedy "Talent Scout" is' playing Friday and Saturday. "Talent Scout" is a story about the movies. A merry yarn from the pen of George Bilson, is laid against a studio background back-ground and several sequences show scenes actually being made with actors, cameras, lights, sound apparatus and all the other technical tech-nical paraphernalia- necessary in the picture. "Broadway Melody of 1938," as its title indicates, is a year ahead of its time. The scintillating musical from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer opens at the Rivoli theatre Sunday, co-starring co-starring Robert Taylor and Eleanor Elea-nor Powell, with a cast that is virtually an all-star aggregation. It includes George Murphy, Binnie Barnes, George Ebsen, Sophie Tucker, Judy Garland, Charles Igor Gorin, Raymond Wal-burn, Wal-burn, Robert Benchley, Willie Howard, Charles Grapewin, Robert Rob-ert Wildhack and a chorus of lovely girls. Roy Del Ruth directed and the producer was Jack Cummings. Dave Gould directed the dance numbers and Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed collaborated on the musical score. The songs are sure-fire hits. . Plenty of fur flies when a "hick town" veterinary and a fearless newspaper editor declare open warfare on a mob of big city racketeers in RKO Radio's thrilling comedy drama, "The Big Shot," starring Guy Kibbee and teaturing Cora Witherspoon, Gordon Gor-don Jones and Dorothy Moore. Miss Moore and Gordon Jones are paired as a romantic team for the first time. The strong cast includes Russell Hicks, Frank M. Thomas, Barbara Pepper, Max-ine Max-ine Jennings, Dudley Clements, George Irving and Eddie Gribbon. |
