Show SOCIETY NEVS Members of the local unit American Legion auxiliary, were enteri ,-iined at their monthly meeting meet-ing Wednesday night, at Memorial hall, with President Thelma Clark in charge. Presentation of a picture pic-ture entitled. "In Flander's Fields," was made by rIrs. Lola Li.wnbee who also gave the history his-tory of the poem by that title in connection with several other wartime war-time compositions. Readings also wi re given by Mrs. Inez Chader, and music was by a high school quartet, under direction of Delmar Dickson; Miss Louise Long gave a piano solo and Mrs. Dickson a vocal solo. It was decided at the meeting to distribute Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing baskets to needy families again this year and also to asisst the Firemen in repairing toys for Christmas distribution. Mrs. Blanch Beal, Mrs. Delia Clark and Mrs. Floss Phillips were appointed ap-pointed to arrange details for visitors at the district convention scheduled to be held here the lat-ler lat-ler part of the month. Chairman Esther Johnson reported a successful suc-cessful membership drive now underway. un-derway. After the program, refreshments re-freshments were served by Mrs. F.mma Long, Mrs. Inez Chader, Mrs. Lionel Miller and Mrs. Claude Billings. Mrs. D. B. Welch was hostess to the Missionary society of the Community church at her home Wednesday afternoon. Refreshments Refresh-ments concluded the meeting. Members of the Ladies Literary Liter-ary club will meet at the home of Mrs. A. E. Jacobsen, Thursday night. Papers on Ethiopia and Italy, will be given by Mrs. Clara Stimsion and Mrs. Manilla Brown, respectively. The Fourth ward Elders' quorum quor-um under the direction of President Presi-dent J. Y. Camp Aaron Johnson, will meet Thursday afternoon, November 21, at the home of Mrs. Jennie Starr. All members are urgently invited to attend. Mrs. John Kirk of Milford, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Bertram Bert-ram Dallin and her sister Mrs. John Dearing in this city. Mrs. Robert Chadburn of this city, left Sunday for Montana to attend funeral services for a grandson. In honor of the birthday anniversary anni-versary of S. A. Clyde, Mrs. Clyde entertained at a dinenr at their home Sunday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Elden Clyde and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ford of Murray. Daughters of Pioneers, Camp Springville were entertained Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Anna Mendenhall. Mrs. Hattie Dougall, Mrs. Rhoda Hatfield, Hat-field, Mrs. Mary J. Finley, Mrs. Olive MoCurdy, Mrs. Irene Strong, were assisting hostesses. The meeting began with community singing led by Mrs. Ella Reynolds, who also gave a Thanksgiving reading. The lesson, "The Nauvoo Legion," was given by Mrs. Mary J. Finley. Following the reports by the retiring officers, election of new officers took place Mrs. S. D. Markham, vice president of the county board was in attendance. attend-ance. At the close of the meeting meet-ing refreshments were served to nearly 50 members and special guests. Olin Zabriskie formerly of this city is now employed in the war finance department, at Washington Washing-ton D. C, according to wprd received re-ceived here. Mrs. Zabriskie plans to join her husband in the east soon. The retiring officers of the Fourth ward Relief society will be guests of honor at a social scheduled to be held December 10 Monday, Nov. 18th, Dr. and Dr and Mrs. N. H. Packard of Ogden formerly of Springville, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary In the receiving line were Dr. and Mrs. Packard and the following children: Mrs. A. G. E White White, Ogden. Two hundred and fifty guests called between the hours of 3 and 8 p. m. The music was furnished by the Lillian Thatcher string trio and vocal selections.
