Show MIhq u iiyilllili yiiteb i i fl atoll MlliiiiiiMy Site Selected; To Be Purchsed ByNebo Board The Springville high school art committee and Nebo school district board made final agreement Wednesday to purchase the Daniel Witney property adjoining the high school on the west, for the construction of an $79,868. art building. Work on the project is scheduled to begin Saturday. Plans and specifications for the building have been : drawn by Claude S. Ashworth, Provo architect. It will be Spanish style architecture of re-enforced concrete construction, con-struction, in stucco finish. The building plans provide for a two-story structure. The second story will be used exclusively ex-clusively for art display rooms. A small auditorium and class rooms in which art classes may be given, will oc-I oc-I cupy the first story space. ) The 79.868 W. P. A. project was approved by the government providing the sponsors could raise approximately $25,000 on the cost of the building. The government agreed to contribute $54,000. While the city was in no position to raise the entire amount necessary, neces-sary, financial assistance has been proffered by church, civic and industrial in-dustrial concerns, making the building project possible, art committeemen com-mitteemen stated Wednesduy. Mayor George A. Anderson, Principal V. W. Brockbank of the high school and president of the art association, Attorney M. R. Straw and C. G. Salisbury, in a conference Tuesday with President Heber J. Grant of the church were promised financial assistance from the church. The Nebo school district dis-trict board have purchased the property and will contribute some financial assistance, while cooperation coopera-tion from the Brigham Young university uni-versity also is offered. Officials of the Utah-Idaho Sugar company have invited members of the art committee to meet with them in consideration of their' assistance, it is stated. The building will provide adequate ade-quate room in which to hold the annual national art show each year, and will also house the high school's permanent art collection which already has attracted nation na-tion wide attention. |
