Local Karl Bird, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bird of this city, recently recent-ly won a distinguished honor in the speech and debating- department depart-ment of Snow college, where he is attending school this year, according ac-cording to word received here. Karl was one of eight students selected to represent the college in speech and debating events held in California. He has just returned re-turned from the trip which took them to numerous places of interest in-terest on the coast. They spent some time in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Glendale and at Red-land, Red-land, debating- at . the latter's school. The group was gone nearly a week and were chaperoned by Miss Lucy Phillips of this city, an Instructor at the college. Karl and other members of the team will also represent the school in debating contests at the. University Uni-versity of Utah on April 23'. He was a graduate from the local high school last year. The new electric power system went into effect the first of April, councilmen .announce. A substantial substan-tial saving on many electric bills will result in the new arrangement. arrange-ment. City council men also wish to remind citizens that it is unlawful un-lawful to clump rubbish in the streets and violators of the law will be punished. The Stake M Men and Gleaners are planning an annual spring festival in the form of a dance to be held April 15, at Memorial hall. An Easter theme will be carried car-ried out and the affair promises to be outstanding in every detail. Presidents Jack Cherrington and Miss Ina Miner have arrangements in charge and announce that tickets tick-ets will be sold on a competitive basis by the various wards. After a certain number of tickets are sold by the ward a refund will be made. It is therefore desirous that . ward members secure their tickets from committeemen in their own ward. Jackie Parker, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Parker, is convalescing from a major operation opera-tion which he underwent a week ago at a Provo hospital. The Second ward presented a delightful one-act play in the preliminary program of the First Ward M. I. A. Tuesday evening. Mrs. Wilford Mower directed the performance. The following delegates and alternates al-ternates have been selected to represent the Women's Federated club of Springville, at the slate convention in Provo the latter part of next week: Alpha Beta, Mrs. A. O. Packard and Mrs. David Reese, the latter, alternate; Home Culture, Mrs, D. B. Welch, Mrs. Howard Thorpe and Mrrs. C. F. Packard and Mrs. C. E.
