To this end the club was resDonsible for the placing of some 750 pamphlets in the city electric light bills this month, telling tell-ing some of the vital facts found in proper and improper lighting of our homes, schools, public offices, of-fices, etc. It is found that more than one half of the adults in the United States are suffering from defectiye vision, while one fourth of the children in the country are suffering suffer-ing from the same defect. In most cases it has been found also that poor vision has been caused by Door lighting. We are asked, "Is our home lighted for barely seeing or easy seeing?" Illumination is measured by foot candles. One foot candle is the intensity of light one foot from an ordinary candle. When one is sitting sewing, outside, their eyes receive the benefit of 1000-foot candle light, while sitting inside by a window the eyes receive 200 feet of candle light. Then when we find that most of our sewing and work requiring the use of the eyes is done at night with from one to five candle feet of light, one may readily see what defects to wision may result. . The total cost of better and more efficient lighting in our homes, offices and schools is very small in comparison to the benefits bene-fits thereof. The public is asked to cooperate with the Home Culture Cul-ture club in sponsoring better lighting facilities in the community commu-nity becajuse it is for your, benefit that proper lighting facilities are made available. |
