Show KING DEFENDS SILVER ISSUE AMERICAN 'FORK. Senator William H. King talked on the silver question Thursday night following fol-lowing the regular Lions club luncheon at which he -was- honorary honor-ary guest. His talk was listened to with great interest by about one hundred fifty persons. Senator King began with a history his-tory of 'coins as a medium of exchange, ex-change, up to the acceptance by common -usage of gold and silver metal as the most practical. He then pointed out how the various nations had demonetized silver and destroyed its monetary function,, which in - his opinion, is .largely-responsible for' the economical eco-nomical and industrial depression. With but about ten billions of dollars dol-lars in gold in the entire wprld, the debts of the world totaling several hundred billions of dollars, rest on this wholly, inadequate gold base, said the senator. He further stated that every successful suc-cessful attack upon sliver has been followed by. industrial calamity, also that the oriental and occidental, occi-dental, trade of the United States was seriously threatened, and he branded the danger as an Industrial yellow peril. |
