Show Springville Girl Wins Nebo School Spelling Contest SPANISH FORK Miss Ruth Fry, Springville junior high school eighth grade was decLared the winner of the Nebo district spelling spell-ing bee which was held recently at the junior 'nigh school auditorium audit-orium in Spanish Fork. J She was awarded a gold medal Chesley Peterson of Suntaquin school won second honors -and Rees Olson of Payson junior high third place. Louis A. Bates grammar grades and junior high scWo! supervisor was the director and Leslie H. Cornaby was pronouncer. A. J. Jones of Duchesrle district and Fay Bearnson acte'd as judges. Twenty-eight contestants represented repre-sented sixteen schools as follows: Edda Johnson, Mapleton; Billy Bowen, Roland Johnson and James Pierce, Spanish- Fork junior high; Evelyn Ellett, Leora Morton and Rut'h Fry, Springville junior high; Lola Clayson, Lake Shore schools; LeBarron Robins Barbara Nelson and Evel.yn Steele, Goshen school; Fern Gardner, Salem; Joyce Stewart, Stew-art, Benjamin ; Bob Brady, Thistle; Reed Johnson, .Spanish Fork Central; Ray Johnson, Spanish Span-ish Fork Central ; Dale Montague and Gerald ine Brandon, Payson Central; Von 'Gardner, ' Clinton; Ernedine 0 1 eson, Peeteetneet school; Florence Page, Rees Olson and Virginia Larsen, Payson Junior Jun-ior "high school; Montez Reynolds, Taylor school; Chesley Peterson and Vcrna Peterson, Santaquin school; Dorothy Johnson and Ina Ganford, Washington school. One little boy Bob Brady, a fourth grader in the Thistle school surprised every one by remaining in the contest until near the end and spelling even the difficult eighth grade words. |
