C, won first prize at the ninth annua! ai t exhibit which was brought to ? close with appropriate unveiling exercises in the Spring-v'iKc Spring-v'iKc high school art gallery Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon. Second prize went to James Aiiox of Brooklyn. N. Y., whose picture "Evening." was also unveiled un-veiled before a large audience. The prize picture was unveiled by Miss Beth Smit h. a sophomore student, and the second prize canvas was unveiled by Miss Eva r! aimer. Hear ty applause, accompanied the unveiling of both pictures, either of which will add much to the permanent per-manent collection of the art gallery. In addition to tne unveiling of the two prize pictures, Principal E. E. -.nndsen unveiled a bronze tablet on which the names of the lollow-ing lollow-ing art benefactors were engraved: H T. Reynolds estate, Mrs. C. M. Dougall Wood. Declaring that the beauty of art is imperishahlc and congratulating the art association and students of the- hifih school upon the splendid achievement attained in fas to ring alien an exhibit, Parley Christensen of Br?gham You. university 1 ileal ile-al ty delivered the principal address at the unveiling exercises. He stated that a painting is a symbol of the imaginative life of an artist and is one of the finest means o' expression known. Tho exercises were in charge ot Mrs. May Huntington. Music was furnished by the high school orchestra, an instrumental in-strumental trio and the concluding number by tho school's glee club. -Awards were made to winning students in tho essay contest. 'he theme upon which they wrote was j 'My Favoi ite Picture." Elaine Bird took lirst prize in the senior i department, consisting of a painting paint-ing done by A. J. Hamilton, of . A'iassachus tts. Second prize consisting con-sisting of a painting by B. F. Larson Lar-son went to M iss Flora Martin.
