J find Jay EtMtins, 24, of Sommerviilc Mass., are winners of the fifth na tional radio audition, sponsored by the Atwater Kent foundation. Miss Knox is a contralto and Edit Ed-it iny a basso. Both will receive $i000 each, a two-year scholarship in voice culture and a gold medal. The finals, hold Sunday night, climaxed a round of competition starting last May. The field had been limited to 10 for the final audition. Other winners are: Second place Thelma Gaskin, coloratura soprano of Orlando, Fla. and Eugone Byron Morgan, baritone bari-tone of Painesville, Ohio. This award carriod 2,000, a one-year scholarship and a gold medal. Third place Mrs. Lavon Graham Holden, contralto of Pittsburgh, Kansas, and Austin Summers But' ner, baritone of Nashville, Teno Prizes were the same as lor second sec-ond pJace. Fourth place Miss Lillian Mey er, soprano of Jamestown, N. D. and. James D. Metcalf, baritone of Austin, Tex. Prizes were $1,500, one-year scholarship andi a gold medal. Fifth place Miss Eleancr Coryell, Cory-ell, coloratura soprano of Santa Cruz, California., and Andrew White, baritone of Tucson, Ariz. Prizes $1,000, one-year scholarship and a gold medal. Judges were Rosa Ponsclle, Alma Gluck, Sophie Breslau, Dr. Walter Damrosch. Ycatman Griffith, and M. H. Aylesworth, president of the National Broadcasting Co. |
