Show FARM GROUP WANTS TAX REDUCTIONS $1,-100 Items For Reappraisal of Property Is Opposed; Reduced Fay For Deputies Demanded By Delegation. More than 60 members of the Utah county farm bureau and other county taxpayers by unanimous vote Monday morning- registered their disapproval dis-approval of Utah county cooperating co-operating with the state tax commission in its plan to make a survey of this county with a view of establishing new appraisals apprais-als on the real property for taxation taxa-tion purposes. This action was taken before the board of county commissioners at the public hearing on the 1932 budgets, bud-gets, when it was discovered that the county board had set up an i item of $1400 with which to coop-crate coop-crate with the state commission in - making the survey. Crtvsr Defends Proposal The motion was made by N. C. Cbristenaen of Salem, former state representative, who declared that he is opposed to any program that calls for additional expenditure of . publics funds. Speaking in opposition to Mr. Christensen's motion, A. R. Creer of Spanish Fork declared the proposed pro-posed plan to be the best yet devised de-vised by tax experts of the country, coun-try, and told the group that 23 states have adopted it. He referred refer-red particularly to Indiana, which state he reclared had reduced taxes each year during the seven years that the new method of appraisals had been in operation there. He also stated that the plan had been adopted by the national tax commission com-mission as the most practical and feasible one devised for the equalization equal-ization of taxes. In the final vote, however, Mr. Creer did oppose Mr. Christensen's motion. AVunt 25 Percent Cut Jesse Hall, president of the Utah county farm bureau, told the commissioners com-missioners that the group had determined de-termined to get a tax reduction of 25 per cent, and declared that such i reduction could not be expected if Hpproval was given to such expen- 1 dit.ures. ' Beginning at the head of the tentative budget setup explanations explana-tions are given of the various items. Expenditures of the commissioners com-missioners came in for scrutiny first. A substantial cut in this department de-partment was shown, and explanations explana-tions of the scope of a commissioner's commis-sioner's responsibilities were set forth by Chairman J. W. Gillman and Mr. Smoot. In the treasurer's office two deputies will feel the effects of the official hatchet, it was stated. They are scheduled to a reduction of $15 per month each. The wages of extra help also will be cut from $3 per day to $2.50 under the proposed pro-posed setup. Twenty-three field deputy asses-, sors are scheduled to take a cut : of $1 per day, it was explained. I These men are now receiving $5 per day, whereas under the new ! setup they will be allowed $4, i which must include, it is explained, their traveling expenses. : Score Mileage System The present system of automo-i automo-i bile mileage came in for a scoring 1 by A. R. Creer, who declared that he favored a flate rate on mileage in all departments of the county. Ho expressed the belief that if this ; were done, great reductions would I be shown in the mileage of all de-i de-i partments of the county.
