Show Paul Th orn To Coach At Local High School - . j Signs To Coach At Springville 9 31 JLJIf "Simba" Will Return To His i Old High, School Succeeds Howard Paul "Simba" Tnorn, one of the greatest football players ever developed de-veloped at the Brigham Young university, uni-versity, will re'urn to the scene of his former high school triumphs ar: athletic director next fall, it was learned todav. Thorn will replace Bob Howard, another "Y" athletic idol, as coach at Springville high. Thorn started his enviable, athletic ath-letic record at Springville. He pained letters in basketball, football, foot-ball, and track ind in his last year he captained the Red Devils to a state championship in football. He attended the "Y" one year before leaving on a two-year mission to Africa. Outstanding On Gridiron The former Springville flash returned re-turned from his church work the same year' Ott Romney took over the coaching duties? at the "Y." Since that time Thorn has won letters let-ters in football, basketball and track. During his junior year he i captained the "Y" varsity eleven. His great work on the gridiron during his final year made him an outstanding choice for haltback on the all-conference honor team. Thorn was not only outstanding in athletics but in active school "work and leadership. He is at present pres-ent president of th? senior class. When the univerjity closes this spring Paul Thorn will be a mem- I PAUL "SIMBA" THORN cry as far as the Cougar school is concerned, but many coaches, professors pro-fessors and students will miss his brilliant work, both in class and in athletics. |
