Show 2 BOYS DIE IN LANDSLIDE AT THISTLE Playmates Fatally Injured When Boulder Gives Way On Hillside , THISTLE--Two boys, playmates play-mates for years, were carried to their deaths in a landslide, while at play on the hillside near their homes at Thistle, in Spanish Fork canyon, Friday Fri-day afternoon. John Louis Wilson, 10, son of Ellwood and Shepherd Wilson, was extricated from the debris in which he was half buried at the bottom of the canyon, and rushed to Spanish Fork. He died enroute in the arms of O. L. Webb of Thistle. Jack Lloyd Benedict, 12. son of Lloyd E. and Anna M. Wagner Benedict, died at the Aird hospital in Provo at 7:15 p. m. The accident acci-dent happened at 4:50 p. m. Friday. He was taken to the hospital by Mart Ajerriott, railroad man of Thistle. The two boys, accompanied by a third, Duane Chipman of Salt Lake,, were playing on top of aj huge boulder on the west side of I the canyon, a favorite playing spot. I They had been rolling small rocks I down the hill and were trying to j pry another rock loose from the i hillside when the bould-er, with Ions of debris around it, suddenly I gave way, cany nig the twro boys with 11. more than 150 yards to the bottom of the canyon. The Chip-man Chip-man boy miraculously escaped when he leaped to safety. Both of the boys were unconscious. uncon-scious. Death in each case was due to internal injuries, being , crushed by the rocks and the weight of the debris. i ' The Wilson boy was born in Springville, August 17, 1923. He is survived by his parents, three sisters, Genevieve, Myrle and Bessie, Bes-sie, all of Thistle; two grand parents, par-ents, Mrs. John R. Wilson, Los Angeles, and Joseph Shepherd, Springville. Young. Benedict was born in" Salt Lake City, October 24, 1921. Surviving Sur-viving besides the parents are two sisters. Geraldine and Helen Benedict, Bene-dict, Thistle; two grandmothers. Mrs. J. C. Benedict, Atascadero, California, and Mrs. Christian Sutter, Sut-ter, Springville. Both boys were students at the Thistle school. The bodies are at the Claudin Funeral home pending arrangements arrange-ments for funeral services. |
