Show MATILDA SMITH LAIDAT REST Impressive funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Johnson Smith, whose death occurred in a Salt Lake hospital Friday, were held in the Third ward chapel Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon with Bishop Peter Nielson in charge. The speakers were Patriarch O. B. Huntington, Ernest Boyer, and John Groesbeck. Music was furnished by Catherine R. Dougal, who sang two vocal solos, and Mr, and Mrs. Guy Brown, who gave two duet numbers. The invocation was by Dr. George A. Anderson and the benediction ben-ediction by George McKenzie. The dedicatory prayer at the Evergreen cemetery was by C. O. Claudin. She was born April 20,- 1858, In Harrison county, Iowa, She was married to Joseph Franklin Smith in February 1876, and shortly after they moved to Springville, where the family has lived for more than 50 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of tht William McKinley Women's Relief! Corps, auxiliary to the G. A. R., her husband being the only remaining Civil war veteran in Springville. She was a member of the L. D. S. church. Surviving are her husband; one son, Claude J. Smith of Springville; one sister, Mrs. Alice J. Wood, and one brother, Harman H. Johnson of Salt Lake. |
