Show NEW SCENIC ROAD PLANNED Plans toward the building of a 50-mile Alpine scenic road back of the Nebo mountain range which would connect roads in Payson canyon can-yon and either Salt creek or Nebo creek out of Nenhi, are underway by Nephi and Payson citizens and local forest service officials, it is reported. The road would open up another scenic and recreational area. It would follow the divide between the Nebo and Salt Lake creeks watersheds water-sheds almost parallel to the main range of the Nebo a few miles past, with a maximum elevation of 9,000 feot. Forester Leads Charles De Moisy, superintendent of the Uintah national forest and Ranger A. C. Christensen led a horseback party of Provo, Nephi and Payson, citizens a,long the proposed pro-posed route last Saturday as far as the ranger station in Payson canyon. About 125 head of elk were seen on the trip by the party. It is estimated esti-mated that approximately 600 of the band that resulted from the planting of 35 elk from the Yellowstone Yellow-stone in. 1914 were left in the district. dis-trict. About 500 have been taken out by hunters. The party fenced plots and other demonstration areas on the high range where the forest service is testing methods of artificial and natural range re-vegetation. It was evident that the better soil types on the high range that have been badly bad-ly over-grazed in years past may be restored to a much higher grazing graz-ing capacity. Others in the party were Charles H. White, county commissioner of Utah county; Mark Anderson, Provo; Pro-vo; A. V. Gadd, Juab county commissioner; com-missioner; Melvin Wilson, superintendent superin-tendent of the Nebo schools; Superintendent Super-intendent of Schools Owen Barnett, Nephi; Dr. L. D. Pfouts, LeRoy Bunnell and William A. McClellan, Payson and several from Nephi. |
