WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 (U.R) A united offensive to smash the depression "on all fronts" began today on a six-point six-point campaign plan adopted by the president's economic conference. Prospect of a general mortgage mort-gage foreclosure moratorium and large scale re-employment of railroad rail-road workers added impetus to the movement. Henry M. Robinson, tall, white-haired white-haired California banker and personal per-sonal confident of Mr. Hoover, emerged from the conference as the generalissimo of the anti-depression forces. Named Co-ordinator He is chairman of the central committee of banking and industrial indus-trial committees of the 12 federal reserve districts. His job is to co- ordinate private and public effort to improve business, stimulate employment em-ployment and aid agriculture. Serving with Robinson of the central committee are cabinet members,' chairmen of the emergency emer-gency credit organizations established estab-lished by congress, and private bankers and industrialists. Operating Operat-ing tinder its direction are six subcommittees sub-committees which will sponsor specific programs in each federal reserve district. ' Outstanding men have been placed at the head of the sub-committees. They are going to work at once. Typical of them Is Walter C. Teagle, president of the Standard Oil of New Jersey. Teagle, a big man and no fashion plate, is a native of Ohio and a powerful figure in New York. To him was assigned the sub-committee which will- seek to increase employment through dividing work. He has a definite program which has been operating successfully in his division divis-ion of Standard Oil. His sub-committee was called to meet today. |
