At the same time railroads serving1 Colorado points reduced voluntarily on November 5 the rates on coal moved intrastate intra-state in Colorado from Colorado coal fields to Colorado consumption consump-tion centers. Thus it is found that Colorado coal shippers are paying $2 per ton on lump coal and $1.85 per ton on slack coal for a haul of 208 miles from Trinidad to Denver, while the charge for a haul of 125 miles from Carbon county mines to Salt Lake is now $2.16 on lump coal and $1.61 on slack coal. Reduction of the price of coal to Utah county consumers has been made possible recently as a J result of a reduction in freight j rates from Carbon county coal ; fields. The reduction, which was ' put into effect more than a week ago, amounts to 55 cents a ton on all grades of coal except slack, shipped from the King mine and Castle Gate districts to points in Utah county between Lehi and Payson, inclusive. New Bates Effective The rates now in effect are $1.61 a ton between the two coal mining districts as point of origin, anu Spanish Fork, Payson and intermediate inter-mediate points of destination; also to Lehi as far south as Provo, but not including Provo, as points of destination. To Springville Jand Provo, the new rate is $1.41 a ton. As a result of the freight rate reductions, Provo coal dealers announced an-nounced several days ago new prices of $6.25 for lump, $5.50 for stove size, and $5.00 for nut coal. Although the new reductions do1 not apply to any part of the state . outside of Utah county, the Utah Shippers' Traffic association has announced "the intention to apply for similar reductions of 55 cents a ton to Salt Lake county points. The new rates to Utah county are effective until December 31, unless amended, cancelled or extended ex-tended in the meantime. John S. Early, executive secretary secre-tary of the association, has started preparation of a petition to the Utah public utilities commission which will ask removal of freight rate discriminations in Utah outside out-side of this county.
