Show Monument Base Is Being Rounded Into Fine Shape The steps of the pioneer monument, monu-ment, on the southeast corner of the city park., have been recently polished in preparation for the placing' plac-ing' of the 71,-! ton granite stone which will form the base for the monument. ' The work on the stone, which is said to be perfect, is being done in Salt Lake and is progressing nicely, nice-ly, according to Chairman S. L. Mendenhall, who made a trip Wednesday Wed-nesday ,to inspect the work. A bronze plaque with a short history his-tory of the monument movement is being set in the back of the stone, while another bronze plaque portraying a covered Yagon with ah ox team and pioneer man and woman will decorate the front. Upon arrival from Salt Lake the stone will be placed' upon the steps and shortly after the bust, which arrived some time ago, will be placed upon the blue-grey stone, completing the work on the project. |
