Show COOLIDGE FOR UTAHPROJECT Endorses Reclamation Legislation Legis-lation Recommended by Fact-finders. WASHINGTON, D. C, May 10. President Coolidge is "strong for" the reclamation legislature recommended recom-mended by the fact-finding committee commit-tee and thinks that legislation should be enacted by congress this session. Not only does the president believe be-lieve the recommendations of tho fact-finders, with respect to new projects, should be carried out by congress, but he also wants congress con-gress to take up and enact into law the general changes proposed by them in the reclamation law. The president made known his views in very plain terms when a delegation of western senators and representatives called upon him Friday Fri-day to urge him to instruct the budget bud-get bureau to report favorably to congress- the estimates submitted by Secretary Work for six new projects including the Great Salt Lake basin project in Utah. The budget bureau, on the protest of Representative Cramton, had whittled down the estimates, recommendation recom-mendation by Secretary Work, eliminating elim-inating all but two of the six proposed. pro-posed. Inasmuch as the fact-finders after an enhnustive study, had reported re-ported favorably on the six projects, the president told his callers he could see no reason why estimates for those projects should not be submitted sub-mitted to congress without delay, but with the conditions attached which the fact-finders nnd Secretary Work had jointly recommended. |
