Show riepublioeo Convention The Republican state convention assembled at the Columbia Colum-bia theater in Provo Friday afternoon named the following 14 delegates from Utah to the national Republican convention conven-tion to be held at Cleveland : - .. Hfinrv Welsh of Summit county. Mrs. Jeanette Hyde of Salt Lake City. General Frank T. Hines, director of the Veterans' bureau. E. D. Hatch of Heber. W. J. Lowe of Brigham City. ' Mrs. Justin R. Davis of Salt Lake City. James A. Anderson of Morgan. Any vacancies will be filled by the state executive committee. com-mittee. M. M. Steele of Millard county nominated Ernest Bam- berger as national committeeman. Mi-. Bamberger wasj elected by acclamation. I Mrs. Jeanette Hyde of Salt Lake was elected national I committee woman on motion by Ernest Bamberger. I party to take their positions on the stage. Among those on the stage were W. W. Seegmiller, speaker for the last legislature and candidate for governor; T. E. McKay, chairman state utilities commission; Governor Ma bey, Ralph Guthrie, Ernest Bamberger, Bam-berger, Mrs. Jeanette Hyde and Mrs. Justin Davis. The stage was beautifully decorated decorat-ed with potted and cut flowers. Large pictures of President Calvin Coolidge, Abraham Lincoln and Governor Gov-ernor Charles R. Mabey also adorned adorn-ed the stage. Amid the hearty cheers of the delegates, del-egates, Chairman Marcusen read messages frotn Senator Reed Smoot and President Calvin Coolidge. The messages were as follows : In honor of the memory of the late President Warren G. Harding, the delegates sat with bowed heads for one minute. J. Reuben ClarK of Salt Lake City nominated Senator Iteed Smoot as delegate to the Cleveland delegation. delega-tion. He was elected by acclamation. acclama-tion. Carl R. Marcusen named Governor Govern-or Mabey as a delegate. Without a dissenting vote the governor was elected by acclamation. Mr. Marcusen was also elected by acclamation on motion by a Carbon Car-bon county delegate. Mr. Higgins of Millard county placed State Senator David Hirschi of Washington. He was elected by acclamation. Oo motion of Harold T. Fabin, E.' O. Howard of Salt Lake City was elected by acclamation. S. G. Dye of Ogden nominated Arthur Wooley of Ogden. Mr. Wooley Wool-ey was elected by acclamation. R. E. Allen of Provo was elected by acclamation. He was named by Dr. H. S. Pyne of Provo. E. R. Callister of Salt Lake nominated nom-inated Henry Welsh of Summit county. Mrs. Sarah Edginton named Mrs. Jeanette Hyde. Warden James Devine of Salt Lake named General Frank T. Hines. G. F. Ryan of Wasatch county named E. D. Hatch of Wasatch. John Peters of Brigham named W. J. Lowe of Brigham. At 10:27 o'clock. Slnfn Chairman Carl R. He complimented tlie women for taking such an active part in the present convention and urged thein to pay as much attention in teaching Their children the proper political ideas as in the moral and religious teachings. lie said that the spirit of the convention con-vention should be the action of the deleirates after the convention. Mr. Marcusen presented to Mr Tloliiin-'sworth a gavel made from a limb of an ash tree planted on Mae-icr Mae-icr bill in 1SS7 by Senator Iieed Smoot. The keynote address was given by Ciiairniau llolliugsworth, who was interrupted time and again by the heavy applause of tlie delegates showing their approval of the statements. |
