Show PEACH CROP IN UTAH COUNTY IS PROMISING Peach and Apple Crop of 1924 Will Be About Normal. Indications throughout the Utah county fruit belt are to the effect that there will be a bumper peach and apple crop harvested this yeur. The late frosts hnve not injured any of these fruits, according to surveys sur-veys innde by the fruit growers in the county. The sour cherry crop will also be normal while the sweet cherries will be about one-fourth normal. In some sections of the county the sweet cherry crop has been entirely destroyed by the severe cold weather during the early months of 1924. In other sections, however, it is said that the sweet cherry crop will be about 25 per cent of the regular crop. The smaller fruits such ns strawberries straw-berries were hard hit by the frosts last week. Strawberry growers on rrovo Bench after inspecting their patches of berries have expressed ' the opinion that they have suffered suf-fered considerable loss due to the severe frost. t George J. Adams. John Shoppard, Carl Farley and L. J. Salisbury, prominent fruitgrowers of Provo Bench, inspected several large acreages acre-ages of strawberries in that terri- j tory the first part of last week. 'Strawberry growers have suffered suf-fered a great setback by the late frost," said Mr. Adams. "An inspection inspec-tion trip through a dozen or more patches located in the center of Provo Bench was sufficient to prove to us that some berry fields had lost from one half to three-fourths of their crop, while others were not so badly injured. To our best judgement, judge-ment, however, taking field after field, about half of the crop is lost. "On account of the large increase in the strawberry agroage this year is had been considerable worry to the growers what disposition should he made of this year's crop. The fear that small prices on account of tl e large acreage and the naturally resultant increase in the output had also caused worry on the part of I the growers. "Thereis no need to worry about I fliis any more. The frost iir.- pu ! to rest all these worries. The pres-jent pres-jent outlook is that there will be 'plenty of berries to supply the local I demand at a. good price to both the 'grower nnd the consumer." |
