Show SO THE PEOPLE MAY KNOW Editor's note The following communication has been submitted to this paper for publication. It is not an editorial, hence it may, or may not express the views of this paper. However, the Herald being the only newspaper published in this city, and being be-ing desirous of serving all citizens to the best of its ability, is publishing this article. Under the present ownership it has been the policy of this paper to publish all communications submitted to it so long as the said articles are not abusive, or contain personal elements that involve the reputation of citizens. In fact, the Herald invites communications of public questions, or items of general interest to its readers. After a period of time ranging from one to 20 years, and after rendering a service which for all that time had proven satisfactory to the previous city councils and the citizens in general, the veteran volunteer fire department of , Springville on about the 12th day of June, 1928, was unceremoniously dismissed by the present city council. coun-cil. This action, with no reason whatever, came about as a complete com-plete surprise to the members of the old department, and with no explanation for the action by members mem-bers of the council who gladly grabbed grab-bed and accepted as a good excuse for relieving those fellows who had "made" the fire department of Springville. Since this action by the said city fathers, still more falsehoods have been and are being circulated by members of the new department, headed by the mayor, who seems to be a good leader in such stuff, and the members of the old department take this method of letting the people peo-ple know just what the facts in the case are. It is possible that the people arc wondering just why the Springville fire department was not called at the time of the recent bad fire at Spanish Fork. In order that the present department might get themselves in right with the public the story has been circulated by the present chief (?) and the mayor, to the effect that the chief of the Spanish Fork department, called Mr. Wheeler, chief of the Springville Spring-ville volunteer fire department, and Mr. Wheeler told him that there was no fire department in Springville. Spring-ville. We now and forever brand1 that story an absolute falsehood, and invite any member of the present pres-ent department or the mayor to prove their story. Why such a story was circulated we are unable to understand, except that the present mayor needed some excuse for "his" departments not being called. This is not the first story that has been circulated by the chief and the mayor about the fellows who for years gave their time and effort for the safety of the people and the property r-i Springville. Many of the ntoriei have been of such a nature that they cannot be brought into the public press, but we will be glad at any time to meet with a representative represen-tative group of the good citizens of Springville and give all the facts in the case. However, we are accused by Mr. Brimhall of some things, all of which are branded now by us as being absolutely untrue. Among these we arc mt-ntioninpr the following: We ate accused of throwing the pool balls at the plns-ter plns-ter walls of the room allowed the department at the fire station. We are accused of taking to the station liquor to drink and making of the station a ruff house. We now in vite said Mr. Brimhall to come into the open and prove these stories. Since his appointment as custodian it has been his chief desire to get rid of the 61d department; And, although al-though the present mayor admits that the appointment of Mr. Brimhall Brim-hall was a mistake, and had he known what he now sees as facts, he would never have made the appointment, ap-pointment, yet he has willingly accepted ac-cepted the stories from Mr. Brimhall Brim-hall and aided very materially in their continued circulation. More than that, at the suggestion of said Mr. Brimhall, the mayor took it upon hivnrelf to discharge the old department. The result i". '"--.t at the present time Springville is without a trained train-ed fire department. The old department de-partment is still fully organized un-drr un-drr the by-laws of the Utah-Juab County Firemen's association, and is a member of the Utah State Fire-; men's association, and as members iiave in the past lived up to and will continue to live up to the motto of that association: "We aim to aid and work to save." Should our assistance at any time , be of any value to the people of -ni ingville,- we stand by our motto. t We have never quit, we have never I even been officially notified that we were discharged, but we must admit ad-mit that we were just a little ahead of the man at the top.
