Show SPRINGVILLE BASEBALL FANS MAKE FLYING START FOR ENTRANCE TO LEAGUE Springville will have a baseball team in the Utah Central Baseball League this summer, according to a decision made at a mass meeting held at the city hall Friday evening even-ing April 3. The meeting was probably the largest attended of any meeting of tho kind ever held in Springville. It was called by Mayor G. R. Maycock. Dell Webb, the league secretary, was present. He gave a report of the two meetings recently held by the board of control and outlined the general policies that would be followed. According to the rules, Mr. Webb said, each team in the league must use home town talent, the hiring of professional players from outside the league territory will he prohibited. prohibit-ed. One hundred dollars forfeit must be placed with the board of control by each team entering to guarantee that they will remain in the league for the season. Of this amount it was reported that Springville -already has a credit of $(55 as a holdover hold-over from the old league of two years ago. The balance of $35 was subscribed before the meeting ad- j journed. Win. A. Firmage of the.,J. . C. Penney Co., also made a contribution contribu-tion of a half dozen league baseballs, for the team to start practicing with. . Enthusiasm ran high for the national na-tional sport and everybody present w-as enthusiastic about going . into the league also iu getting up a team second to none in the league. Mayor G. R. Maycock, who has taken the initiative in the matter, emphatically declared that the mayor and city council is heart and soul behind tho move. A. L. Gnrbett was unanimously sustained as business manager for the ball club and C. R. Jones as representative rep-resentative on the board of control. The following were selected to act as a committee of five to secure a manager and director for the team: Mayor G. R. Maycock, Coach D. A. Smith of the high school, A. L. Gar-bett, Gar-bett, Lee Davis and John N. Wilkin. Wil-kin. The cities that will have a team in the league arc: Lehi, American Fork, Provo, Springville, Spanish Fork, Payson, Nephi and Ilcber. |
