One day some weeds grew up In it. They grew and grew until after many days crowded the flowers out. In the full there was nothing bul a patch of weeds left. Bad English Is similar to the weeds. It is used a little every day and a little more every day until Good English is crowded out. If you hear n person use Good English you. are sure they have tried hard to do so. They also help you to use Good English when you hear them use it. When you are careless with your own English and don't stop to think. Bad English is sure to develop. The worst form of speech is "Slang." Slang is similar to sonic eontageous disease. If you catch it. it Is hard to get rid of. If we could henr others say it, we would never use it again. A teacher once said that Slang was a sign of not knowing know-ing enough words to say. in America the schools have been trying to teach (lie children to use good language. Every year a certain cer-tain week Is set apart as "Good English Week". During this week we are supposed to speak nothing but the best English. If piv.ple would use better language during these weeks and these n Us ccnie more often, it would help us more in our language. As those weeks come but once a year, we should speak good English nil the time. EDNA STARR. March 24. 11)20. , Washington School. |
