Show ILIGHTNING RAISES HAVOC HERE FRIDAY Lightning threw a terrific scare into the etizens of this community Friday afternon and evening, with the result that some damage was done, according to reports from different- parts of the city. A huge walnut tree in front of J. M. Groesbeck's home was struck and, the current followed a clothes line into the bathroom of the house cracking a large glas. PU,ater and tiling of the bathroom were damaged dam-aged and fuse plugs were blown out. Fixtures were also twisted out of shape, according to Mrs. Groesbeck. Members of the family who were sittiing in the other part of the house were not hurt. Another narrow escape was that of Ray McKenzie, who was working in a hay field. He was wearing high top shoes with steel plates on the heels. The lightning hit the plates and went to his knee. Aside from causing a temporary numbness numb-ness and shock and was not seriously ser-iously injured. The fire which started at the Hal oil station on South Main street was also reported due to the lightning having struck a cement pole, which was lined with metal lath. The fire department was called and no -considerable damage dam-age was done, although serious damage would have resulted had the large oil tank, which was located lo-cated a short distance from the post, caught fire. |
