Show MEASURES FOR GRASSHOPPER I I CONTROL GIVEN By H. V. OOKE County Agricultural Inspector. There is considerable damage being be-ing done by grasshoppers in man. parts of the county. To effective !y control them, it Is important that control measures be taken before they have had a chance to do much damage, or to become widely scattered scat-tered into the fields. The following formula has given good results in grasshopper control : Bran (free from shorts). 50 pounds Sodium Arsenlte 1 pint or 2 pints if hoppers are full grown. Sugar beet molasses (or cheap syrup 1 gallon Amyl Acetate IVi ounces Water 4 or 5 gallons 22 pounds of salt is added, especially es-pecially when grasshoppers are full-grown full-grown at the time of poisoning, unless un-less the soil is alkaline; then a bait is better without salt. Dissolve the syrup or molasses in the water. Add the sodium arsen-ite, arsen-ite, and stir thoroly. Add the amyl acetate (and salt if used.) Sprinkle the poisoned solution into the bran! Mix thoroly. The bran should be just damp, not wet, so that it will crumble when thrown upon the ground. It not damp enough a little lit-tle more water may be stirred into the bran until the right consistency is obtained. This should be broadcast broad-cast before sunrise. The sodium arsenite and amyl acetate is furnished at cost by the county and may be obtained at the office of the Agricultural Inspector, Room 14, Court House. (When Inspector In-spector is not in, the material may be obtained from the County Auditor, Audi-tor, Room 8.) If you have any special problems in grasshopper control call the Agricultural Ag-ricultural Inspector or County Agent, who will give the necessary assistance in lining up a grasshopper grasshop-per control campaign whenever needed. |
