Show Club enjoys Christmas social, program The home of Zina Johnson was the setting for the Springville Spring-ville Federated Music Club program pro-gram and Christmas party Friday evening of last week, President Eileen Bird was in charge. Carol Manwaring read the club collect. Highlighting the program was a review of the life of the composer George Gershwin, given by Mrs. Yvonne Johnson. Also music by Gershwin was rendered by Annie Forshee, who gave a piano solo, "Rhapsody "Rhap-sody in Blue," and vocal selections se-lections were by Frances Clark, Jessie Johnson, Pat Giles, Larry Lar-ry Johnson and Jean Biesinger. Mrs. Maurice Bird, Mrs. Johnson John-son and Tom Biesinger were accompanists. It was pointed out that Gershwin, who was only 39 at the time of his death, is probably prob-ably best known for his "Porgy and Bess," musical play, which was on the cultural exchange program with Russia, and for his "Rhapsody in Blue." His brother, Ira Gershwin was his principal collaborator. Following the program, Mary Schreiver and Mary Boy-er Boy-er were in charge of singing Christmas carols and the exchange ex-change of gifts. Tiny stockings along the fireplace held numbers num-bers corresponding to those given on stocking favors so each could claim her gift. Other Oth-er Christmas motifs added to the spirit of the occasion. Visiting was also enjoyed together to-gether with a nicely arranged lunch, the- hostess being assisted assist-ed by her sister, Maria Johnson. |
