Show Utah Symphony plays Jan. 24, 25 The January 24th and 25th concerts of the Utah Symphony under the baton of Maurice Abravanel will feature an all-Russian all-Russian fare. Works by three Russian composers past and present will be performed. Major works of the evening will be the monumental Symphony Symph-ony No. 5 by Shostakovitch and the Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat by Tchaikovsky. Rounding out the roster of Russian Rus-sian composers will be Kabal-evsky's Kabal-evsky's Colas Breugnon Overture. Over-ture. The Shosakovitch symphony was last performed in Salt Lake City by the Utah Symphony Symph-ony five years ago. It is without with-out question the composer's most popular work. Gary Graffman, dazzling young American pianist who has left a trail of glowing reviews re-views wherever his concert and recital appearances have taken him throughout the world, will be on hand for his first appearance ap-pearance in Salt Lake City. Mr. Graffman will play with the orchestra the beautiful Tchei-kovsky Tchei-kovsky Piano Concerto. |
