To be known as the Clyde Memorial Gallery, the 3-story building will facilitate handling handl-ing and exhibition of art pieces. Skylighting will have guarded skylights with tempered tem-pered glass for safety. The new building addition will be completely fire proof and will feature the latest and most modern designs in lighting both natural and indirect. The basement area will provide pro-vide a driveway and door openings open-ings for loading and unloading paintings, sculpture, supplies, etc. It will also include a storage stor-age facility as well as workrooms work-rooms where pictures can be crated and uncrated as well as clasified andor stored. Plans also call for a three-story three-story elevator large enough to accomodate pictures of various sizes and shapes. The first floor gallery will annex the Springville and the Nebo School District as a whole," reported Leo A. Crandall, president pres-ident of the Nebo School District Dist-rict Board of Education. "The present gallery is not adequate to house the art collection, which is valued at well over $500,000, nor is it large enough to accomodate the needs of the school district." He further fur-ther stated that, "this is the first phase , of an expansion program which will see the curator's office restored as a board room, the present art room changed into a reception area for patrons visiting the gallery, added space to exhibit the permanent collection of art treasures, better utilization of the little theater and kitchen kit-chen areas as well as the total to-tal gallery." The new project will provide a third entrance to the art building from the west as well as a basement entrance and second story stairways and corridors cor-ridors suitable for exhibition purposes. The original art building, constructed in 1935 under the WPA program, was designed by Claude Ashworth. Dell Ash-worth Ash-worth of Ashworth Architects of Provo, is presently drawing u,p plans and specifications for the project. |
