Show jCetterd to the ditor Fluoride water does not remove cause of tooth decay, says reader the treatment of disease most doctors and dentists will try to remove the cause of the disease, if they know what it is. Adding fluoride to our water wa-ter supply does not remove the cause of tooth decay. Every mother has control of the diet her family eats, especially es-pecially while t,he children are young and their teeth are forming. She can, therefore, see to it that her children have such an excellent diet that they have very little or no tooth decay. If a mother still feels her children need fluoride, there are many ways to get it. One of the easiest and most economical econo-mical is by the use of sea salt in food preparation. The concentration con-centration of fluorine in sea In a recent Letter to the Editor the question was asked whether citizens of Springville, would, if they could, cut the , pain and discomfort of dental repairs by 50 to 60 for their children. I'm sure that all of us would answer an emphatic em-phatic "yes!" If the method proposed did not infringe on the right of the individual to take care of his own health, and if there were no indications that this method may be detrimental detri-mental to the health of some people. Those opposed to water fluoridation fluo-ridation have not lost sight of the fact that tooth decay is our most prevalent disease; but neither have we lost sight of the CAUSE of tooth decay. Which, as any dentist will tell you, is too many sweets. In salt is such that with normal use a person will get 1 ppm in his food. The same concentration concen-tration recommended for water wa-ter supplies. Salt is something as commonly used as water so the mother does not have to depend on her memory to give it to her children. Ten to twenty years is not long enough to test the result of continuous ingestion thru-out thru-out a persons lifetime, of an accumulative poison. Proponents Propon-ents claim that fluoride does not accumulate. Then how does it help the teeth? Teeth "made stronger" by fluoride have a higher concentration of fluoride fluo-ride than other teeth, therefore, there-fore, fluoride has accumulated in them. And if it accumulates in teeth how can it stop there and not affect the rest of the body, Though it may take many years for the effect to show. . The cost of fluoridation in Springville would be monumental, monumen-tal, looking at the overall figure, fig-ure, which is the only realistic realis-tic way to consider it. Having five places where water enters our system would necessitate buying five fluoride machines. Consider the upkeep on that many machines which are constantly con-stantly in contact with a ma- terial as corrosive as sodium fluoride. Patti H. White. Phone HU 9-6673. |
