Don returned home Tuesday after defending his Golden Gloves crown in Las Vegas and Los Angeles competition. Springville boxer makes envious record in championship contests 1 Robinson. Don has sparred with champion Gene Fullmer and other top boxers. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Miner were in Las Vegas to watch their son fight. The Miner's are proud of his record and Jeff remarked that Don is a consistant trainer and keeps in top shape with his morning exercises and workouts. Don Miner, Springville boxer and winner of the Golden Gloves boxing meets in the state and in the intermountain region for the past three years, returned to Las Vegas two weeks ago to defend his title that he won last year. He defeated two opponents in the meet and again won the welter weight open division divi-sion title which entitled him to represent Las Vegas at the finals in the Pacific Coast championship boxing at Los Angeles. He won his first bout which qualified him for the championship go. However, upon up-on examination, prior to the fight, the physician advised Don not to fight further because be-cause of a congestion in the chest and his trainer, Mickey Parks, decided a further examination ex-amination should be made before be-fore any further fighting. Because Be-cause of this, Don lost the opportunity op-portunity to go to Chicago for the finals. At 22, Don has made an outstanding out-standing record in the boxing game having won the Intermountain Inter-mountain AAU at Denver and Las Vegas, and qualified to fight in Chicago two years ago, besides other winning honors in the state in the boxing box-ing game. His trainer, Mickey Parks, at one time trained Joey Maxim, the light heavyweight heavy-weight champ and Sugar Ray |
