Show Pony League all-stars finish second in Blackfoot tourney Springville can well be proud of the record this year of the Pony League all-stars in their recently completed tournament at Blackfoot, Idaho. The local team came within two points of the championship, losing out to an outstanding Blackfoot team, 2-0 in the finals. A large delegation from Springville was in Blackfoot during the tournament, according accord-ing to Bud Schardine, Pony League president. Bud had a registration list of followers from here of 126 people besides be-sides the ball nlavers and man- the past three years points to the fine leadership here and playing ability being developed through the city - sponsored baseball recreation program. In 1959 the Springville team placed pla-ced second. In 1960 they took fourth and this year, of course came in second. The first game of the meet they won by a lopsided 15-1 score over Laramie. Pitchers were Fitzgerald and Frandsen with Bird catching. Wed., they trimmed Cedar City 7-6 with Thorpe and Fitzgerald and agers. Pony league officers were very pleased with the support they received in Blackfoot Black-foot and express their thanks to all who contributed to the success of the team. Even in losing the championship, champion-ship, the Springville team looked look-ed very good and played outstanding out-standing ball. The record over team won over the locals 3-1 with Reid pitching and Bird catching. Friday, they again defeated Cedar City 13-8 with Fitzgerald and Frandsen and Bird. Sat., they defeated Boury tiful 3-1 with Thorpe and Bird pitching and catching Reid pitched the championship game and did a whale of a job despite the loss. Four of the first five spots in the final of the touiney were taken by Utah teams. |
