Show Peoples, Citizens parties set nominating primaries Tuesday Springville politics came into the limelight this week with announcement by both the People's Party and the Citizen's Party that they will each hold a public nominating primary meeting next Tuesday evening at 7:30. The Citizens Party meeting will be in the high school auditorium, audi-torium, called by Chairman Le-Roy Le-Roy Tingey, while the meeting meet-ing of the People's Party is scheduled for Brookside School, under direction of Chairman Bud Schardine. Nominations will be in order at the meetings for candidates for the office of mayor and two city councilmen to fill the expired terms of Mayor J. Em-mett Em-mett Bird and Councilmen Ruel Crandall and Blaine Clyde. All three officials were put in office by the Citizen's Party, Councilman Frank Memory Me-mory being the successful councilman candidate from the People's Party. While several Springville men have been contacted concerning con-cerning their availability to run for city office, the field is wide open, said one party worker, as he pointed out the difficulties encountered in securing se-curing qualified men not too busy to serve the city. When a citizen takes an elective office, it is not for material gain. He is open to criticism on all sides and mnnv havp fminH if- a tVinnlr- less job. On the other hand, some men feel it their patriotic patrio-tic duty to give of their time and talents and ofttimes neglect neg-lect their own interests to serve the city. It is this latter type of men, the city is seeking. Party leaders Wednesday expressed ex-pressed a desire to have any qualified man, who feels he has time to serve in the ca pacity of city mayor or councilman, coun-cilman, to make his name known. Quite often the best man remains in the background, back-ground, it was stated. At an organization meeting of the People's Party held recently, re-cently, Bud Schardine was named chairman; John S wen-son, wen-son, secretary; Floyd Stewart, treasurer; Frank Memory, platform plat-form chairman; Harold Bart-lett, Bart-lett, nominating chairman; Ed-gel Ed-gel Oldroyd and Bill Jones, publicity chairmen. |
