Next meeting was announced for Oct. 14, to be at the home of Mrs. Gwen Tippetts. Mothers Study Club hears of convention Mothers Study club members heard a most interesting re-view of the national conven-tion of the GFWC at Washing-ton D. C, given by Mrs. Mary Schwartz, district president, Friday afternoon. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Floss Phillips with President Zelma Beardall in charge. Mrs. Schwartz des-cribed numerous highlights of the meet, an interesting one of which was the western break-fast at which was portrayed the marriage ceremony of various foreign countries in costume; also the awards breakfast, she described as in-teresting. She told of going on a tour conducted by Mrs. Har-old Christensen of Springville a national department chair-man and of being entertained by Senator Wallace Bennett. Headquarters for the conven-tion attended by 3500 women was at the Park Sheraton Ho-tel, she reported. Current events were given at the meeting by Mrs. Nellie An-derson. The hostess served a nicely arranged lunch at the close to 21 members and Mrs. Edna Miss Nancy Miller takes vows with Maurice Cowley in temple Now at home in Provo after an early autumn temple wed-ding, are Mr. and Mrs. Mau-rice Cowley. The groom is continuing his schooling at the BYU, where he is enrolled as a senior. Mrs. Cowley is the former Nancy Miller of this city, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Joe Miller and the groom's par-ents are Mr. and Mrs. Norman H. Cowley of Billings, Mont. Following the temple cere-mony, the couple was honored at a reception in Kolob Stake House and then went to Bil-lings where a reception was also held. After the temple ceremony, an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thorn entertained at a wedding breakfast at their home in Orem for ap proximately 25 memebrs of the wedding party. The bride chose for her wed-ding gown, a lovely embroider-ed silk organza underscored with taffetta. Her veil of Bel-gium hand-mad- e lace was ar-ranged to a tiny cap and her bouquet was of salmon colored glamelias and feathered car-nations. Gowned in apricot-checke- d gingham, the bride's attendants were: Judy Wright, maid of honor; Judy Allan, Lorraine Nielson, Sherie Miller and Gail Cowley, bridesmaids. Each car-ried a basket of gladioli and chrysanthemums. Best man to the groom was Floyd Davis of Billings. John Miller and Bruce Cow-ley were ushers. At the guest book was Linda Braum and Jeanne Hansen. Mildred Ratos, Glenda Jack-ma- n and Helen Watts arranged the gifts and Lucille Johnson and Betty Liddiard were in the trousseau room. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Johnson were acting host and hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Virg Bird have returned home from an enjoy-able two weeks visit in Colum-bus, Ohio with their son and daughter-in-la- Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bird and family. They made the trip by train. Maurice and Nancy Miller Cowley have returned from a -- honeymoon and wedding party in Billings, Mont., following a temple wedding and reception here, and are now making their home in Provo. Garden club sets meeting The Art City Garden Club, open to the general public, will convene Monday at 7:30 p.m., at the Junior high school,, to hear a representative from a Salt Lake landscape and gar-den concern discuss rock gar-dens. Information will be given on how to build a rock garden, and with what to plant and how to care for them. Ruth Boyer, club president, announces also there will be a door prize. For their last meeting, mem-bers of the club visited and inspected gardens at the Ros-en- a Ennis, Dr. Norman Parker, Frank Memory, Fred Hoffman, Don Tipton, R. D. Frazier and Howard Maycock homes. Re-freshments were served at the Maycock home with Mrs. Bar-bara Clark assisting. lIr. and Mrs. J. C. Nielson and Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Niel-son and Mrs. Sadie Whiting of Mapleton were in Salt Lake City Friday evening to attend the wedding of their nephew's daughter. Roberts on 5 MARINE and GARDEN CENTER 97 South Main Springville Formerly Springville Feed Company Home Culture Club hears noted speaker Jack Brand ' of New York City, well-know- n television per-sonality, seen on the United States Steel Hour, in Utah for the Steelmark Days, Friday ad-dressed the Home Culture club at a meeting at the home of Mr. Maurice Bird. He explained the purpose of the Steel celebration and out-lined plajis for the big event. He also spoke informal-ly explaining his purpose of being in Utah, which he de-scribed- as his first trip west in many years. He also told 'of a recent trip he made with his wife to Colombia during which he wrote a story which was illustrated by his artist wife. Glida Ann Lewis entertained with vocal selections and Mrs. Bird and her daughter Mary Jane played piano selections. The meeting was in charge of the president, Mrs. Waldo Jackson. She announced that she had tickets for the com-munity concert in Provo for the child guidance clinic bene-fit and that if anyone of the club desired to go to contact her or Mrs. Ronald Thorpe. The hostess served delicious refreshments at the close of the meeting to club members and special guests, Mrs. Ster-ling Price, Mrs. Rulon Nich-ole- s, Mrs. George Bird, Mrs. Verl Whiting, Glida Ann Lewis and the guest speaker. Mrs. Wilda Oakley has re-turned home from Albuquerque, N.M., where she spent three weeks with her daughter and son-in-la- Ted and Marlene Scow and children. She went especially to see her new grandson born September 12, which is the fourth son for the Scows. Everything you hear in church is not necessarily the gospel. |
