Show r 7 , - Fourteen guns, sevei'al pair of binoculars and other items of fishing and hunting equipment equip-ment were sold at public auction auc-tion recently by the Utah State Department of Fish and Game. Bidders paid a total of $412.-50 $412.-50 for these guns and other equipment which had been confiscated con-fiscated by the courts after having been used illegally m the pursuit of or taking of fish andor game. All monies derived from this yearly public auction are deposited de-posited in the state fish and game fund. An average 61 hunter success suc-cess was realized by 161 antelope ante-lope hunters during the limited late-Aug. hunts for these animals ani-mals on seven permit areas where seasons were set. this year by the Utah Board of Big Game Control. The department of fish and game said 98 animals were taken ta-ken on the buck only permits, with hunter success varying from 38 on the -West Desert unit to 90 in the Box Elder hunting area. Four of the 165 permit holders failed to report re-port for the hunts. Board action each of the past several years has scheduled some antelope permits for most of the state's small herds to allow gunners the pleasure of the hunt while removing male animals surplus to the herds needs. ' ' The early deer hunt on the Henry Mountain unit, will continue con-tinue through Oct. 2, and reopen re-open for the regular season Oct. 22 to Nov. 1. All 800 two-deer special permits per-mits for the Henry Mountain unit are sold, but regulations this year allow hunting with the regular license and tag during any regularly set sea son. Thus, any regular big game license holder may hunt the Henry Mountain unit during dur-ing this season. Kid's fishing ponds over the state are now open to angling by all license holders, according to the Utah Department of Fish and Game. They are opened following the Labor Day holiday period each fall to assure a more complete com-plete harvest of the planted trout during the remainder of the angling season. The kid's fishing waters are set up by Commission action each year on a limited basis upon request by local sponsoring sponsor-ing organizations. |
