"Hunter safety" will become this year's project in ,an effort to certify members under the new law which is effective this year. This will be followed up next year with a program of archery safety, boat' safety, camp safety and mountain soring the program and pro-viding the facilities for the classes. The addition of the 4-- H clubs throughout the state with the help and cooperation of the county agents, has rein-forced the many organizations now conducting hunter safety training, and should insure even greater success of the program , during its first year of existence. - Such organiza-tions as the Utah National Guard, teaching in the armor-ies located in most major com-munities, civic clubs, wildlife federations, American Legion posts, VFW posts, church and boy scout groups, PTA and school systems, provide train-ing in most communities. The 4-- H program will insure training to many outlying ru-ral areas not covered by the other sponsoring organizations. 4-- H members are encouraged to enroll immediately to in-sure the opportunity of obtain-ing this training before the purchase of next season's hunt-ing or combination license. safety. The third year's pro-gram will cover an extensive study of survival training, and will include several field trips into remote areas where actual survival techniques will be procticed. In some cases, the program will be instructed by the club leader, who has be-come a certified survival train-ing instructor through the Utah Department of Fish and Game teacher training pro-gra- f. However, in most areas the instruction will be given by ready trained teachers in the immediate locality, with the 4-- H club and club leader spon- - Stake Mia Maids plan program It will be mothers and daughters night out next Mon-day when the MIA Mia-mai- d special program, "Dear to My Heart," for Springville stake is held in the Stake House. Hopkinsville recently faced Jie same problem that plagued many another community: trash-littere- d alleys, besides be-ing eyesores, were a constant 5re and health hazard. It licked the problem with the teamwork of old fashioned civic determination and modern engineering. The Jaycees told merchants and local officials of the amaz-ing change they had seen when a new, automatic trash-dispos- al method was tried in Clearwater, Fla., Grand Rapids, Mich., and many other com-munities. After much study, the city purchased a Leach "Pack-maste- r" a trim, enclosed refuse collection unit that me-chanically picks up and com-pacts the contents barrels, boxes and all of rat-proo- f, fireproof Leach enclosed con-tainers. See picture mm- - container being emptied auto-matically into Packmaster). Merchants replaced their un-sightly trash barrels with the new containers. The collection crew now does a neater, faster job, helping local tax dollars stretch farther. And a perenni-al occupational hazard back-alle- y odor is a thing of the past. These wild birds, five female and two male, came from the Arizona department as did two earlier plants made in this area. The two previous plants of eleven and fifteen turkeys were made in 1957 and 1958, respectively, and add up to a total of 33 birds planted at this site. The department said field surveys indicate that turkeys will do well in this section of the state, with a normal in-crease of birds noted in the earlier plants.
