The -.meral opinion was that it was bt-tter to "stav witli t.ie ore." A brief ruvit-w of the" development of tlio mine wniiid also shed somo light on th.is question. ques-tion. 1urin the -past year considerable development de-velopment wuj'k was carried on through tunnel No. :'. with the object, of further pvt. vine,' at greater depth the existence of the ore-bearing fissure; exposed in the upp-'i" WorUlngs. Some 000 fee; of work has been done to date on this level, the result of which, when taken in conjunction conjunc-tion with tho work done, on tunnel No. ;:, gives further assurance that what the property iiceds In order lo open commercial commer-cial ore bodies is development at greater depth through channels thai will provide . permanent and economical .handling of ore and supplies. In the work on the. Xo. - tunnel level eras was oueounteroJ, and, upon the initiative in-itiative of resident Xichoks, tunnel Xo. ;; was 01 ened as an air tunnel. A winze was sunk from tunnel No. -J down fifty-four fifty-four fe,.t to conn ect with tunnel Xo. 3, but would give considerably more in-erty. in-erty. While cuLtin? tunnel Xo. ;'.. mineralized min-eralized fissures were, encountered, from which t;ome lifteen tons of ore wore sacked and sent to tho sampler, the smelter returns on which netted the company com-pany JIS4.17. It is hoped that by development of these fissures ore in paying Quantities will be encountered ; not all of the vein is paying- ore, however, and. consequently, it has to be carefully sorted. Since the annual meeting a great deal of thought has been Lfiven to the host plan of opening open-ing up the great ore bodies which are believed to exist on the property, by development de-velopment work of permanent value for handling the ore and supplies economically economical-ly when oro Is encountered. With this end in view, the services of Charles A. Zabriskie of Kureka as manager have been secured. .He has had long experience, experi-ence, in the Tlntic mining district, and was for many years superintendent of the famous Iron blossom. tie at once made a thorough examination examina-tion of the property, and made certain suggestions outlined below for its future development. After consulting other experienced ex-perienced mining men in the district and receiving their approval, these suggestions sugges-tions were adopted. Much of the work heretofore done on the property had little lit-tle relation to a plan of permanent development. de-velopment. In the future, vigorous and consistent, yet conservative, development of the property will be in order. Mr. Zabriskie recommends the driving of a. main working tunnel as low down tho mountain as possible. Th.is working tunnel has already been started under contract, on extremely favorable terms, arid its completion should only bei a matter mat-ter of four or Jive months. Such a tunnel. tun-nel. TeO-100') feet long, intersecting the north and south fissures 1 7t feet below the Xo. 3 air tunnel level, would cost but little more titan 170 feet of timbered working shaft to reach the same point. It would not only bo completed sooner, thus ventilating this part of the prop-formation prop-formation than is now available for determining de-termining the proper location of a deep shaft, and would connect such a shaft to an ceonomically working tunnel accessible ac-cessible by an easy wagon "grade to the main valley road. It may possibly prove desirable to continue this tunnel to the Gold Plossom vein, intersecting it more than 1OU0 feet beiow lis outcrop on trie surface, where considerable high grade was mined years ago. |
