Show BRICKMAKERS STRIKE FOR INCREASED WAGE One hundred and sixty brick and clay workers went on strike yesterday at the Utah Fire Clay company of Salt Lake and the Western Fire Brick & Clay company com-pany of Murray. The men demand an eight-hour day, one day of rest in seven, and $4.75 a day, with time and one-half for overtime. over-time. They have offered, through the state industrial commission, to submit their alleged grievances to arbitration, if this is agreeable to the employers, according to A. E. Harvey, secretary of the Utah State Federation of Labor. The strikers were working seven days a week, nine hours a day, at $3. .SO, and were paid regular pay for overtime before be-fore they walked from their jobs, according accord-ing to union officials. Officials of the fire clay companies declare the present price of their products prod-ucts does not justify higher wages. |
