Democrat, of L" tali, has had a long conference con-ference with Under Secretary of State Polk, it was learned today, and a portion of the conversation was devoted to the peace treaty. Senator King tonight expressed ex-pressed the firm belief that the treaty .would be ratified within the next twenty days, or withimtwo weeks of the resumption resump-tion of business on January 5 by the senate. 'There 1? no possibility of getting the treaty through without reservations." said Senator King. "I think the majority of the I-iodge reservations, with some modifications, modi-fications, will be adopted. There will probably be a modification of the preamble, pre-amble, article X and the Monroe doctrine section. Tn the main, however, tne Lodge reservations res-ervations will be adopted. By Lodge res-: res-: ervatlons. of course. I mean all the re:;- er vat ions that come under that general heading. Many of the reservations were suggested by other senators.'' A number of the mild reservationista intended tomorrow to carry their fight for a compromise to Senator Hitchcock, in the hope that a definite procedure on the treaty would be prepared between now and the convening of tiie senate. His illness, however, has temporarily disrupted dis-rupted their plan, and ft is probable they will make no effort to see the Nebraska senator until lie is entirely recovered from j his present indisposition. ! |
