Show njKD Speakers at Liberty Stake Conference Stress Safeguarding Safe-guarding of Young. Proper care of children was the topic discussed at both sessions of the quarterly conference of the Liberty stake of the L. D. S. church yesterday. Joseph Field- ing Smith of the council of the twelve, speaking in the afternoon meeting in the Tabernacle, declared companionship between be-tween parents and children to be one of the great forces in child welfare work. Closer jurisdiction over the young and the training of their minds in proper channels so that they may be kept from the streets was urged by the speaker. Closer observance of the Sabbath was also stressed. Presiding Patriarch Hyrum G. Smith emphasized the necessity for safeguarding safe-guarding of the young by their parents. I President Anthon H. Lund presided and President Hugh J. Cannon conducted the exercises. In the rnornlng session, in the Assembly Assem-bly hall, Edwin S. Hinckley, superintendent superinten-dent of the State Industrial school at Ogden, spoke on the proper care for children chil-dren and told of the conditions that lead to juvenile delinquency. Hyrum G. Smith, presiding patriarch, continued on tho same theme. Changes in the officers of the Liberty stake were made. The selection of Fred M. Michelsen as second counselor to President Pres-ident Hugh J. Cannon was made necessary neces-sary because of the illness of Arnold H. Schulthess. Bryant S. Hinckley, formerly for-merly second counselor, was made first counselor. Joseph H. Peery, formerly, stake superintendent of the Y. M. M. I. A., was made a high councilman, and Herbert M. Maw was sustained in his place as superintendent, with Berner O. Hewlett and Charles Norberg as counselors. coun-selors. Mrs. Ada B. Hinckley was made second counselor in the stake Y. L. M. I. A. organization, succceeding Miss Af-ton Af-ton Young. Mrs. Annio Vetterli was made second counselor in the Relief society so-ciety presidency, succeeding Mrs. Minnie H. James. |
