The section of illustrations of the department of agriculture turned oiit in the past twelve months 181,000 pieces of photography, it was announced an-nounced today, and the statement was made that if all knowledge of agriculture were blotted out of the minds of men tomorrow it would he possible to reconstruct good agriculture agricul-ture from the pictures in the possession posses-sion of the department, i The subjects range from orgaii-I orgaii-I isms so small that they had to be ! photographed through a high power I microscope to fumigation tanks ! large enough to admit a whole train 1 of freight cars at once; from a fever tick fastened to the hide of a cow to magnificent stretches of forest and pasture photographed from the tops of njountains. All these pictures are used in educational edu-cational work of some kind. They are printed in bulletins, on leaflets, in newspapers; are shown to farmers farm-ers and farmers' wives by county agents; are displayed at fairs and other expositions, and in one way or another are brought to the attention atten-tion of the great body of men and women through the nation who make life possible for the rest of us. |
