Show That would be the sensible thing to do under the circumstances, and any other course would be fraught with' danger. Governor Linn Frazier, Nonpartisan league executive of North Dakota, has declared martial law and ordered the reopening of the lignite mines of that state, the excuse being that the miners and operators had failed to reach an agreement. The federal authorities are considering the situation, but have not announced any 'course of action. Frazier 's declaration of martial law camo as a great surprise, since there were no sign's of rioting and it was generally gen-erally supposed the federal authorities would handle the situation. What success suc-cess the governor will have is a matter mat-ter of conjecture. COAL SITUATION. We do not believe the coal miners of the central district will remain idle for any great length of time, now that tho strike order has been rescinded, for by so doing they would still further damage dam-age their cause. Perhaps Messrs. Dris-eoll, Dris-eoll, Farrington, Jfowat and sons of (he other leaders hope the men will fly in the face of providence by curtailing curtail-ing the production of coal and causing luffering among hundreds of thousnnds of people. But they dare not advocate -h a plan, and it is highly probable a j.r:t majority of the miners will go ,:u-V t., work and await the outcome of uegotiut ions which aro soon lo begin. |
