Material setbacks in the Talue of corn today accompanied a statement by the national wheat director that an immediate imme-diate reduction of the price of wheat was believed to be certain. Corn closed unsettled, 1V.C to 3c net lower, with Julv $J.02rjJ1.62'4 and September $1.64 1.G5. Oats finished c to 1(1V4(C down, and provisions off 5c to $1.12. Bearish sentiment in the corn market devel- ; oped from the outset, as the likelihood was plain, but the conference between official rep- ! rcsentatives of the prnln trade and of the ! 1 government mipht result in measures tending 1 to hold down living cost. Excellent weather for planting counted likewise as a bearish factor, fac-tor, and so, too, in some degree did the European Euro-pean diplomatic situation. Lowest prices of the day came after announcement of the proponed pro-poned method of handling the new wheat crop. Profit-taking by shorts, however, led to considerable con-siderable of a rally later, notwithstanding reports re-ports that the government was about to sell soma of Its wheat here to mills. Oats went lower with corn, despite an improvement in shipping export. Provisions were heavy, as a result of breaks in the grain and bog markets. It was difficult to find buyers, especially of pork.
