Show 'TWEnmETH MAY 60 TO 111 FRONT Recent Indications Point to Sending of U. S. Troops to Roman Soil. The Twentieth infantry, which has been ordered from Fort Douglas to a middle-western middle-western concentration camp, may become a part of an American expeditionary force to be sent to Italy. No official information on tlds point has been given out, of course, but Indications which have come from Washington and other points lead to the belief here that in all probability the Twentieth will go to Italy when it leaves this country some time in the future for overseas service. Dispatches from Washington have indicated indi-cated for some days past that the war department was contemplating the sending send-ing of American forces to Italy to show to that country and to the world the absolute ab-solute unity of the allied nations and that the United States is hand-in-hand with each and all of the allies in the great and single purpose of winning the war for the Recent dispatches have indicated that Major-General Leonard Wood is scheduled sched-uled to take a force to Italy, and inlor-mation inlor-mation received here from various sources would seem to indicate that the Twentieth Twen-tieth and several other regiments of regulars reg-ulars now In this country are destined to form the basis of the force that w ijl go to Italv under General Wood's command. Only a very few of the old army organization organ-ization regiments are still left in this countrv and it is understood that whon the proposed force is sent to Italy no old regiments will be left, in the west at least. The Twentieth does not know yet just when it will leave for the concentration camp, but the work of packing and getting get-ting in shape is progressing apace, and it was stated yesterday that it was in shape now to move any day that transportation trans-portation Is available. It is thought likely, like-ly, however, that It will not get away before next week some time. As a farewell testimonial to Colonel Alfred Hasbrouck, retiring commander of the regiment, who goes from here to the Philippines for duty, the officers of the Twentieth will give him a regimental dinner din-ner at the Hotel Utah Saturday night. The affaJr will be an elaborate military event. |
