Show i Put in Class One of Army Draft on Complaint of Wife Andrew Burr Devore Is Ad-j vanced When Spouse ! Makes Charges. Special to The Tribune. 0GDEN, June 19. That her husband be taken from class 4 and placed in class 1 and inducted into military service at once, formed the basis of a request that was filed with the city exemption board by Mrs. Edith Devore, wife of Andred Burr Devore, and granted at once by the board. The woman says that her husband has treated her and her daughter, 9 years of age, in a cruel and inhuman manner. Mrs. Devore says that with her husband's hus-band's army pay and the allotment by the government, together with what she can earn, she will be able to get along and enjoy life more than she has been able to since August 24, 1914, when she married Devore at La Junta, Colo. In her affidavit Mrs. Devore alleges that her husband has been in the habit of beating her daughter, by a former marriage. mar-riage. She says that he used a heavy razor strop or .his heavily-shod shoe. He is alleged to have made life so unbearable that she was compelled to seek safety and refuge at another place. The affiant says the husband has never provided for her and has been a habitual drunkard. drunk-ard. After reading the affidavit, the local board granted the woman's request and Devore was placed in class 1 and ordered to appear for examination preparatory to leaving here on June 24 with the quota for Camp Lewis. Devore' home is in Pocatello, but he was registered in Og-den. |
