Show HUGH M'KEAN, former checker champion of Utah, who has gone to New York to build ships for Uncle Sam. I i , -j Hugh McKean, th well-known Scotch-American expert checker player, who held the champion" ship of Utah or many years, gave a simultaneous simulta-neous exhibition at the local club last Tuesday night, being in the nature ot a farewell performance per-formance before his departure for New York, where ho will resume his old trade of shipwright and help build ships for our soldiers' bridge to France. Although sadly out of practice because of his retirement from the game, he made an excellent score with the local talent and was in betler form than expected by him. We predict that when he gets east and in touch with Daraah ho will take new interest in the game and resume re-sume his place among the leading American play-era. play-era. But he has been here too many years not to feel that this is really hoaie, and doubtless the lure of Utah and our matchless climato will bring him back here sgaln after he has experienced expe-rienced some really mean weather on the Atlantic At-lantic coast.
